I had tried on and returned the original trailhead shoe due to lack of toe room. The issue has been resolved with the v2, and the new onyx color is nifty.
I've bought and worn out most models of Lems shoes/boots in the past. I bought the Trailhead V1 just before this Mesa was introduced. I was really looking to replace some worn out Primal 2s, but the Trailhead V1 shoes aren't even close to a replacement for Primal 2. They aren't breathable as are the Primal 2s. They aren't anywhere nearly as flexible as the Primal 2, but it turns out that really isn't bothering me. The more sturdy sole is actually grippier and gives more support in more situations. I would say the sole stiffness is more like my 9to5s but with more outer grip. In short, I'm VERY happy with them and would highly endorse them! Yeah, they aren't at all a replacement for the Primal 2 or even the too-lightweight Bolder Boots that I have. The sole flexibility is more like my 9to5 shoes, but have more height that will make these great late autumn/winter/early spring shoes. I'll stick with my Mesa shoes for Summer. Highly recommended though!
