SIZING & FIT GUIDE

Our Fit recommendation for this shoe based on customer feedback: Fit is true to size. We recommend ordering your normal US size.

If you don't know your normal US size, or would like to double check sizing for this model, please use the sizing tools we have provided here like this:

1. Print out our Printable Size Guide for this model and stand on it - making sure your printer is set to 100% Scale. Choose the size where your longest toe finishes. If you are on the line, consider if you will be wearing thick socks, or prefer to have less or more space in your shoes and choose accordingly.

2. Use our Strutfit online sizing app to check your feet measurement and it will tell you what size to order - Click on "WHAT IS MY SIZE?" above. You will need an a4 sheet of paper and a smartphone for this. Once you have done this once, it will also tell you what size you need for all the other shoes on our website as you browse through other models.

3. Use the sizing chart provided which shows the insole length and width of the shoe which you can use to compare the measurements against another pair of shoes that fit you well. Or you can compare them with a sizing chart from another brand and work out your size that way. This is not a fool-safe way though, as the volume and material in the upper of the shoe can also make a big difference to the fit so best to use this in conjunction with one of the other sizing methods.

We don't recommend manually measuring your feet to work out sizing, as in our experience most people measure incorrectly without the use of a proper tool such as a brannock device.

Unfortunately not the hiking boot I had hoped - I found the exposed stitching running up the inside of the back of the boot was hard and abrasive against the back of my ankle, especially walking up hill. It was very uncomfortable and I had to stop and loosen the laces and walk gingerly up hill, as it was actually painful. Cushioning and comfort around the back of the ankle is pretty central to a hiking boot.

Breathability was also an issue. After only a short, 1 hour walk, my feet felt very hot - it wasn't a hot day and I was wearing summer socks. I understand the shoe is designed to be completely waterproof, so perhaps ventilation has been sacrificed for the waterproof capability. My feet were very hot and sweaty after the short walk though.

I found the laces short - longer laces would make it easier to tie and double knot the laces.

On a positive note, the wide toe box was noticeably more roomy for my toes, in comparison to my Salomon and One Planet hiking boots.

I also found the grip on the outer sole good on loose surfaces and rock (I can't comment on wet surfaces, as I walked on a fine day).

I think this boot is okay for casual wear on flat surfaces.. unfortunately not designed with the realities of hiking in mind.

I've just ordered my 2nd pair of Lems Outlander. I walked the Overland Track in Tasmania in December 2023 in a pair that I had damaged slightly by using in snowshoes. The snowshoe straps rubbed the stitching at the side of the shoes near the toes and took a little off the edging as well. They weren't waterproof in the snow and my feet got wet and cold, so when I walked the Overland I used a pair of Injinji sock liners inside waterproof socks and that kept my feet dry. Very happy with the fit of these shoes, which is why I ordered a 2nd pair. They took no time at all to break in. The laces are a little short, as being round, they need to be tied in a double bow or they undo very quickly.

I waited for many weeks to get the original pair W9 on backorder, but they were just too small, even though I'd measured and done everything the website suggested. I sent them back and waited a few more weeks for the next half size up W9.5 Worth the wait as they didn't need breaking in and the picture is their first ever wearing and hike of 14km where it drizzled all day. My feet were still dry as it was all on dirt tracks. Recently I did a shorter hike and walked a bit on wet grass and my feet were slightly damp at day's end. Laces are too short as they are round and undo without a double knot; that's the only negative so far.

🌱 LEMS SHOES SPECIFIC FAQ'S

I’m not sure which style to choose. Do you have a comparison chart?

We get it — with so many great styles, it can be tricky to pick just one! To make life easier, Lems has put together a handy chart that compares all the styles side by side. You’ll find details like weight, flexibility, traction, and stack height, so you can see exactly how each shoe measures up.

Check it out on our Lems Sizing and Fitting Info page.

How do I choose the right size?

The size chart for each product shows the inner length and width of each shoe model. Your toes should always have space to move freely: we recommend approx 12mm of space in front of your toes (no less than 6mm and no more than 18mm). Refer to our comprehensive Find your Perfect Fit page for guidance on exactly how to measure your feet and choose the right size.

Still not sure? Reach out to info@bprimal.com — the team is always happy to help.

How Wide Are Lems Shoes?

Lems Shoes come in 3 Natural-Shape™ widths: MEDIUM, WIDE and WIDEST, depending on the model. Please refer to our Lems Sizing and Fitting Info page for the comparison between models.

What if you are out of stock in my size?

Some of our Lems shoes are very popular, and they sell out fast! If we are out of stock in your size and you are unable to preorder it on our website, please reach out to our team at info@bprimal.com. We are able to preorder Lems shoes, so we can help you place a preorder.

*Please note, dispatch for preorders is typically 3-4 weeks.

Should I choose a shoe with an IBR outsole or a full rubber outsole?

It depends on what you're looking for in performance and durability:

  • Injection Blown Rubber (IBR) outsoles are exceptionally lightweight, flexible, and comfortable—ideal for everyday use and casual activities. However, this lightweight design means they’re slightly less durable than full rubber soles, and may wear down more quickly if used on rough terrain.
  • Full rubber outsoles are more robust and rugged, offering better traction and durability—this makes them great candidates for hiking, trail running, or extended outdoor adventures.
How Can Lems Shoes Benefit You?

With their unique design, featuring a wide toe-box, flexible material, and zero-drop outsole, Lems shoes have the ability to aid in correcting common foot ailments, increase strength in the lower extremities, allow for greater balance, and help realign your posture. Plus, they are just down right comfortable.

I Have Never Worn Barefoot Shoes; Will Lems Shoes Work For Me?

Yes! You may experience some discomfort at first, but, know that this just means the tendons and muscles in your feet adapting to the lack of support that most contemporary shoe companies incorporate into their designs. This should subside over a short period of time.

We typically recommend wearing the shoes sparingly at first, and then progressing to longer durations of wear. It’s all about the transition! Trust the process.

What’s the difference between the Primal 3 and the Primal Zen?

The Primal 3 and Primal Zen are both everyday barefoot shoes with plenty in common — zero-drop, a wide toe box, breathable mesh uppers, and all-day comfort. Here’s where they differ:

  • Primal Zen: More relaxed fit with an attached tongue, firmer heel, slightly higher stack height, and an athletic look.
  • Primal 3: Snugger fit in the arch and heel, detached tongue for flexibility, softer heel, and a sleeker, more minimal appearance.

Both are great for everyday adventures — walking, commuting, or kicking around town. Go Zen if you prefer sporty style, or Primal 3 if you like a minimalist look.

Which waterproof boot is best for me?

Lems has several waterproof boot options, and to help you choose, they’ve created a comparison chart: Lems Sizing and Fitting Info. You’ll see all the key specs side by side.

Insole specifications - what is the difference?

Some of the Lems insoles are cork, and some are poly. All shoes are sold with the insoles inside the shoe - but they are interchangeable and can be easily trimmed with scissors if needed.

For more information on each insole thickness, go to the product page for each insole, click SPECS, and read more.

Do you have any shoes made specifically for women?

Yes! The Laguna is designed just for women, with a narrower heel collar and a slip-on style that’s sleek and versatile. For a slightly less wide option, the Trailhead has a D-width toe box — narrower than most other Lems styles.

Are Lems heavy-duty work boots?

Not quite. Lems boots are lightweight, flexible, and shaped to let your toes splay naturally. They’re not designed for the heavy-duty durability of traditional work boots.

Will Lems help with bunions, hammertoes, plantar fasciitis, or other foot issues?

Many customers with these foot conditions have found relief in Lems thanks to the roomy toe box, flexibility, and zero-drop platform. That said, it’s always best to chat with your doctor to see if Lems are right for you.

I have flat feet. Can I wear Lems?

Absolutely! If your flat feet feel good with minimal arch support, wide toe boxes, and flexible soles, Lems could be a great fit for you. Many people with flat feet find them super comfortable.

Can I Wear Lems Shoes With Custom Orthotics?

All of Lems shoes feature an insole within the shoes that can be removed to allow room for almost all custom orthotics.

Are Lems insulated for cold weather?

Lems shoes and boots aren’t insulated or temperature-rated. But pair them with warm socks or insulated insoles, and you’ll be adventure-ready even when it’s chilly. We recommend pairing with Bprimal Merino Wool toe socks to keep your feet cozy.

How Would You Recommend Cleaning My Lems?

For shoes featuring mesh or canvas, use lukewarm water and mild dish soap to hand wash your shoes. Please allow your shoes to air dry completely over 24hrs before wearing.

*Please note: If you soak your shoes in hot water for a period of time, this can cause the dye fixative or mordant to be removed and can result in the colour running. As Lems shoes have a rubber outsole, high heat washing can also shrink the shoes, so Lems do not recommend putting your shoes in the washer.

For leather shoes, use a suitable leather care cleaner To dry your shoes, just leave them out at room temperature and not expose them to heat.

Do Lems contain latex?

Some styles do. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Contain latex in the elastic: Chelsea Boots, Drifters, Laguna.
  • Contain latex in the rubber soles: Boulder Summit, Outlander, Boulder Boot Grip, Kourt Grip, Primal Pursuit.
Do I Need To Order A Size Larger To Accommodate The Correct Toes?

In most cases you should not have to order a larger size to allow room for Correct Toes. We recommend removing the insole when you are wearing correct toes, to create extra volume in the shoe if you need it.  If you have a very wide foot you may have to order one size up to accommodate the Correct Toes.

What Is There Is A Problem With My Shoes?

We always look to be reasonable and fair in resolving any problem you have with your order from us. Please email info@bprimal.com with your order number and photos.
