SIZING & FIT GUIDE

Our Fit recommendation for this shoe based on customer feedback: Fit is true to size. We recommend ordering your normal US size.

If you don't know your normal US size, or would like to double check sizing for this model, please use the sizing tools we have provided here like this:

1. Print out our Printable Size Guide for this model and stand on it - making sure your printer is set to 100% Scale. Choose the size where your longest toe finishes. If you are on the line, consider if you will be wearing thick socks, or prefer to have less or more space in your shoes and choose accordingly.

2. Use our Strutfit online sizing app to check your feet measurement and it will tell you what size to order - Click on "WHAT IS MY SIZE?" above. You will need an a4 sheet of paper and a smartphone for this. Once you have done this once, it will also tell you what size you need for all the other shoes on our website as you browse through other models.

3. Use the sizing chart provided which shows the insole length and width of the shoe which you can use to compare the measurements against another pair of shoes that fit you well. Or you can compare them with a sizing chart from another brand and work out your size that way. This is not a fool-safe way though, as the volume and material in the upper of the shoe can also make a big difference to the fit so best to use this in conjunction with one of the other sizing methods.

We don't recommend manually measuring your feet to work out sizing, as in our experience most people measure incorrectly without the use of a proper tool such as a brannock device.

I’ve done 150 kms in them. They are indeed waterproof, light yet sturdy. They do not require any break in period however I had to make adjustments for the minimal drop from heel to toe but they felt comfortable throughout. The threads on the outsole are thinner than regular hiking boots without any loss in traction. Descents were surprisingly easier due to the lower profile. The boots were more flexible, a big plus feeling the terrain though on rocky surfaces I felt gravel underfoot without discomfort. No blister issues. Unfortunately, I had to replace the laces as they too short.

Awesome shoe for my foot! Got them as work shoes in the Victorian bush

Love my Lems!

I hit the jackpot with the Lems outlanders, they needed no ‘breaking in’ time, they are as comfortable as wearing a pair of good, reliable old sneakers!
Looking forward to taking them on my next thru-hike in SW WA.
Faye was extra helpful when I emailed asking for sizing advice, and even though they were a pre-order pair of shoes, they arrived with more haste than I expected.

Indestructible comfort

Anything I wear I will wear until it falls apart. Out of all my shoes over my lifetime the only ones I haven't been able to destroy have been Doc's but we all know they are exhausting on your feet with the weight and incredibly uncomfortable without an insole.

I got these a few months before going overseas where I was doing a trek through the mountains and walking the whole time to make sure they were broken in and as good as the claims. I also live on a farm so I'm on my feet all day and in all kinds of weather.

I've never worn a pair of shoes that had literally no break in, they were so comfortable I'd forget to take them off when I walked in the door at the end of the day. It's now been almost a year since I purchased them and they are almost exclusively the only shoes I wear and if you cleaned them up they'd look brand new. The tred hasn't even slightly worn which surprised me, no stitching coming away from any high pressure bend points. They're still as comfortable as day one. The only thing as everyone says, the shoe laces are too short. But honestly I just tie a knot at the tips of the laces and slide them on and off anyway.

I hope by the time I finally manage to break these shoes this model is still available because I absolutely love them.

Really comfortable right out of the box

Really comfortable right out of the box.
Great for hiking or city walking. I also find them good for running. Light and supportive.
They are waterproof, but I found the outside fabric absorbed moisture that wicked inside. I have given them a waterproof spray and hope that hat fixes the problem

Great walking boots

This is the second time I have bought these walking boots. Good lightweight boot for long treks. Laces need a double knot as they are quite slippery. Prefer the laces on Lems

I am absolutely loving my new shoes. Super comfy for a bushwalk or out and about.

Amazing.

Straight out of the box these are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn, by far.
They arrived while I was at work and I put them on, after work I went out for the night doing a fair bit of walking and not the slightest bit of rubbing or feeling like they need any breaking in.
They weren't as thin as I expected which honestly I'm glad about.
I've had an issue where I don't stand correctly, I roll onto my outer sides of my feet and research kept suggesting I go barefoot design. Normally even after a full night's sleep I wake up with aching feet. Putting these on it felt like my feet breathed a sigh of relief, the space to spread out was instantly a relief. When I got home I didn't even think to take them off. No aches from pressure where I normally have, and I could feel I was already walking in a more correct position.
I am normally a women's 7.5 I went 8.5 as recommended to go up a size, I may have gotten away with an 8 but I feel pretty happy with the size choice.
Highly recommend, pretty sure I'll be getting rid of all my other shoes.

Love these shoes! Super comfy. Look great. I was on the cusp of sizes, so went up a size and glad I did.

The best shoes I've ever had!
In my job I hike a lot in National Parks and these shoes are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. No need to 'walk them in' at home. Not one 'pinch' or 'blister' straight to work, and they have not bothered me once!
I did the foot scan for size online, but was sceptical how accurate that would be, so I went to a store and the size given to me online was spot on! So no need to worry when buying online!
Buy them... you will not regret it! ☺️

I ordered a size 9 outlander waterproof boot which was 1 size bigger than my regular shoes and had to replace them with a 9.5 which are fine. The exchange process was flawless and I’ve used my boots on my regular morning walks of 8km and they are super comfortable and I can’t wait to try them out on a proper hike in a couple of weeks .I’ve purchased lems shoes in the past from beprimal before and they are great. I highly recommend them.

These boots are so comfortable!!! They seem to be of excellent quality. I cannot wait to take my first hike in them!!!

S
Sean S.

Nice looking boot. Originally went a half size lower than size app indicator because my other Lems shoes felt a bit loose, but size indicator was right and had to exchange.
Keeps my feet pretty cozy without needing thick socks in (Australian) winter. Room for my toes and lower to the ground than my previous hiking shoes. I can't really speak to the waterproofness, as I haven't worn then in too much rain.
The other really issue I have is the laces being a bit short to tie when through all the eyelets.

M
Mark M.

Really pleased with the product and the service was great, the product arrived very quickly.

A
Alexis K.

Love these, jumped straight in and no need to break them in they feel great. Lightweight and comfortable. I was surprised by how narrow they are for what size I got. They fit me fine but I have to wear the laces pretty loose which means they aren’t long enough to tie up properly. Easy fix, new laces, but I’d consider going a half size up if you have fat feet. I’m not sure if I’m right, but I think the half size in shoes is just a wider version, not a longer version. Good service, got to me when they said they would.

J
Jack W.

Do not buy these if you’re expecting hiking boots, like I was. They are a good looking comfortable boot but not built for actual outdoors in my opinion. This is because:
- they’re not very grippy (wet rocks and roots are a nightmare)
-the lacing system is terrible and very difficult to keep tight (no ankle hook rivets - now I know why in all the promo shots they’re barely laced)
- no under foot channel for gaiter strap
- some poor construction (the lace strap on the tongue came unstitched within the first few hours of use).

All in all these are more like a wide toe box version of high top vans rather than anything intended for hiking or outdoors. I do think they look good but definitely is not what I was expecting or what I actually need. Especially for something that costs as much as good hiking boots. Disappointing.

W
Will L.

These are fantastic boots for hiking if you are familiar with the Lems range. I wore these for a 5km, then a 18km, then an overnight totally 25km and found no wearing in issues at all. I will be doing the 123km Cape to Cape in WA in April and I have no concerns at all for my feet in these beauties! I wear mine purely with Injinji socks. I have previously worn my size 11 Primal 2s for training, gym, running, walking and been very happy. Noticing the toe box difference between the primals and the Outlanders (Primal xwide VS Outlander wide) I reached out to the Bprimal team to confirm size recommendation for the Outlanders. The recommendation to size up 0.5 a size was correct and I definitely make the recommendation to others who find Primal 2s a perfect true fit for their wide foot. Only issue i have found is the laces are too short to have the top looks and still tie up. Additionally, the laces have the classic slip, so double knotting/looping is essential or perhaps replace with longer laces.

N
Nick B.

Hands down the best shoes I've ever purchased. The style is incredible, and quality of build is fantastic. I've come from wearing vans basically my whole life to these. I'm wearing these as an everyday casual/hiking boot when needed. I work in retail and I'm on my feet 10 hours plus per day and for the first time, my feet aren't sore.
Comfortable, natural feeling, stylish, quality. It feels like I'm more barefoot than wearing no shoes at all. If you're like me and are used to having to size up for wider feet then go with your regular size. There's plenty of width in these bad boys. The only complaint I have is that I think these shoes have ruined all other shoes for me now. 11/10

The Lems outlanders were exactly as promised.
Instantly comfortable, grippy in the soggy rainforest i walked in.
I personally really also like the look of them.
I think I'm probably gonna be a customer for life.

🌱 LEMS SHOES SPECIFIC FAQ'S

I’m not sure which style to choose. Do you have a comparison chart?

We get it — with so many great styles, it can be tricky to pick just one! To make life easier, Lems has put together a handy chart that compares all the styles side by side. You’ll find details like weight, flexibility, traction, and stack height, so you can see exactly how each shoe measures up.

Check it out on our Lems Sizing and Fitting Info page.

How do I choose the right size?

The size chart for each product shows the inner length and width of each shoe model. Your toes should always have space to move freely: we recommend approx 12mm of space in front of your toes (no less than 6mm and no more than 18mm). Refer to our comprehensive Find your Perfect Fit page for guidance on exactly how to measure your feet and choose the right size.

Still not sure? Reach out to info@bprimal.com — the team is always happy to help.

How Wide Are Lems Shoes?

Lems Shoes come in 3 Natural-Shape™ widths: MEDIUM, WIDE and WIDEST, depending on the model. Please refer to our Lems Sizing and Fitting Info page for the comparison between models.

What if you are out of stock in my size?

Some of our Lems shoes are very popular, and they sell out fast! If we are out of stock in your size and you are unable to preorder it on our website, please reach out to our team at info@bprimal.com. We are able to preorder Lems shoes, so we can help you place a preorder.

*Please note, dispatch for preorders is typically 3-4 weeks.

Should I choose a shoe with an IBR outsole or a full rubber outsole?

It depends on what you're looking for in performance and durability:

  • Injection Blown Rubber (IBR) outsoles are exceptionally lightweight, flexible, and comfortable—ideal for everyday use and casual activities. However, this lightweight design means they’re slightly less durable than full rubber soles, and may wear down more quickly if used on rough terrain.
  • Full rubber outsoles are more robust and rugged, offering better traction and durability—this makes them great candidates for hiking, trail running, or extended outdoor adventures.
How Can Lems Shoes Benefit You?

With their unique design, featuring a wide toe-box, flexible material, and zero-drop outsole, Lems shoes have the ability to aid in correcting common foot ailments, increase strength in the lower extremities, allow for greater balance, and help realign your posture. Plus, they are just down right comfortable.

I Have Never Worn Barefoot Shoes; Will Lems Shoes Work For Me?

Yes! You may experience some discomfort at first, but, know that this just means the tendons and muscles in your feet adapting to the lack of support that most contemporary shoe companies incorporate into their designs. This should subside over a short period of time.

We typically recommend wearing the shoes sparingly at first, and then progressing to longer durations of wear. It’s all about the transition! Trust the process.

What’s the difference between the Primal 3 and the Primal Zen?

The Primal 3 and Primal Zen are both everyday barefoot shoes with plenty in common — zero-drop, a wide toe box, breathable mesh uppers, and all-day comfort. Here’s where they differ:

  • Primal Zen: More relaxed fit with an attached tongue, firmer heel, slightly higher stack height, and an athletic look.
  • Primal 3: Snugger fit in the arch and heel, detached tongue for flexibility, softer heel, and a sleeker, more minimal appearance.

Both are great for everyday adventures — walking, commuting, or kicking around town. Go Zen if you prefer sporty style, or Primal 3 if you like a minimalist look.

Which waterproof boot is best for me?

Lems has several waterproof boot options, and to help you choose, they’ve created a comparison chart: Lems Sizing and Fitting Info. You’ll see all the key specs side by side.

Insole specifications - what is the difference?

Some of the Lems insoles are cork, and some are poly. All shoes are sold with the insoles inside the shoe - but they are interchangeable and can be easily trimmed with scissors if needed.

For more information on each insole thickness, go to the product page for each insole, click SPECS, and read more.

Do you have any shoes made specifically for women?

Yes! The Laguna is designed just for women, with a narrower heel collar and a slip-on style that’s sleek and versatile. For a slightly less wide option, the Trailhead has a D-width toe box — narrower than most other Lems styles.

Are Lems heavy-duty work boots?

Not quite. Lems boots are lightweight, flexible, and shaped to let your toes splay naturally. They’re not designed for the heavy-duty durability of traditional work boots.

Will Lems help with bunions, hammertoes, plantar fasciitis, or other foot issues?

Many customers with these foot conditions have found relief in Lems thanks to the roomy toe box, flexibility, and zero-drop platform. That said, it’s always best to chat with your doctor to see if Lems are right for you.

I have flat feet. Can I wear Lems?

Absolutely! If your flat feet feel good with minimal arch support, wide toe boxes, and flexible soles, Lems could be a great fit for you. Many people with flat feet find them super comfortable.

Can I Wear Lems Shoes With Custom Orthotics?

All of Lems shoes feature an insole within the shoes that can be removed to allow room for almost all custom orthotics.

Are Lems insulated for cold weather?

Lems shoes and boots aren’t insulated or temperature-rated. But pair them with warm socks or insulated insoles, and you’ll be adventure-ready even when it’s chilly. We recommend pairing with Bprimal Merino Wool toe socks to keep your feet cozy.

How Would You Recommend Cleaning My Lems?

For shoes featuring mesh or canvas, use lukewarm water and mild dish soap to hand wash your shoes. Please allow your shoes to air dry completely over 24hrs before wearing.

*Please note: If you soak your shoes in hot water for a period of time, this can cause the dye fixative or mordant to be removed and can result in the colour running. As Lems shoes have a rubber outsole, high heat washing can also shrink the shoes, so Lems do not recommend putting your shoes in the washer.

For leather shoes, use a suitable leather care cleaner To dry your shoes, just leave them out at room temperature and not expose them to heat.

Do Lems contain latex?

Some styles do. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Contain latex in the elastic: Chelsea Boots, Drifters, Laguna.
  • Contain latex in the rubber soles: Boulder Summit, Outlander, Boulder Boot Grip, Kourt Grip, Primal Pursuit.
Do I Need To Order A Size Larger To Accommodate The Correct Toes?

In most cases you should not have to order a larger size to allow room for Correct Toes. We recommend removing the insole when you are wearing correct toes, to create extra volume in the shoe if you need it.  If you have a very wide foot you may have to order one size up to accommodate the Correct Toes.

What Is There Is A Problem With My Shoes?

We always look to be reasonable and fair in resolving any problem you have with your order from us. Please email info@bprimal.com with your order number and photos.
